Considering booking an appointment with Amber?

Please see some information below that may support you in making your appointment, and understanding what to expect from working with Amber.

  • There are many ways that you can make an appointment with Amber. You can make an appointment by:

  • You do not need a referral to access Ambers services.

To receive a Medicare rebate on your psychology service, you will need an active referral from your General Practitioner. To obtain this, attend a consultation with your General Practitioner for a Mental Health Treatment Plan - they will assess if you are eligible and complete a plan and referral for you.

Ask your GP to address the referral to the following details:

    Amber Vonhoff

    Amber Vonhoff Psychology

Suite 8, 100 Burnett Street, Buderim 4556 QLD

    hello@avpsychology.com.au

If you choose to use services without a referral, you will need to cover the session fee privately (i.e. pay the session in full). Please refer to Fees & Policy for further information.

  • Before your first appointment with Amber, you will need to complete some forms. These may include:

    • Client Policy and Privacy Agreement Form

    • NDIS Service Agreement Form (if applicable)

    • Consent to Request File from other Practice on Client Behalf Form (if required)

  • The purpose of the first appointment is to understand your needs and to plan your approach to therapy. At your first appointment with Amber, you can expect a warm and relaxed discussion on your current mental health, the concerns you have, as well as your history and previous experience seeking help.

During your first appointment, you will work with Amber to identify:

    • What type of therapy is best suited to your needs

    • The goals you will work to achieve through therapy

    • How you can prepare for each session to make the most of your time with Amber

Before your first appointment, it would be useful to think about any issues you would like to address. You could think about any key challenges you are facing, and what you hope to achieve through therapy.

During your first appointment, Amber may ask you to:

    • Share information about yourself and your life,

    • Describe your concerns,

    • Discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and make some goals,

    • Support you to plan an approach to therapy that aligns with your goals, including frequency of appointments, the best treatment approach, and your financial considerations.

It is normal to feel vulnerable and nervous when discussing your personal life with a new person. Everything your share with Amber in your appointment is confidential, except where there may be a risk of harm. It is important to understand this, so you can feel safe and secure to share your concerns freely and receive the most benefit from therapy.

  • While some people may notice improvements after the first few sessions, it is common for people to need much longer to work through complex issues. Your journey will progress at your own pace, and your first appointment is the first step in your journey.

You can reach out to Amber through email at any time to support you through your journey or to raise any concerns regarding your therapy plan.
